Why are African people called black, whereas in the true sense of it, we have brownish skin? Only a small majority of us actually have dark skin. The concept of Black was and still is, the white man’s construct.

The concept of Black was and still is, the white man’s construct. Africans have every shade of skin from light to dark:
It was the Europeans who at first called Africans Ethiopians,Moors and Negroids which meant dark or burnt skinned.

As the Europeans began to colonize the world, they got lazy and basically categorized all the tropical people of Africa, Asia, Polynesia and Oceania as black. Aboriginal Australians were and still are called Blackies and the people of maritime southern Asia labeled Negritos.

Naturally Europeans were white in this scheme of things.

As history has shown, this created a hierarchy wherein a minority white population would identify others by their appearance, devaluing them as humans and created codes and laws that specifically targeted them. Naturally, exploitation, theft and subjugation, that exists to this very day, followed.

Africans, and all indigenous people for that matter, never categorize themselves in such a manner. They go by their tribal affiliation, first and foremost.
